Decoration for Merit to Construction

(Odznaka honorowa "Za Zaslugi dla Budownictwa")

Instituted by decision of Government of October 15, 1971 as the Decoration for Merit to Construction and Construction Materials Industry (Odznaka honorowa "Zasluzony dla Budownictwa i Przemyslu Materialow Budowlanych"). Conferred in three grades (gold, silver and bronze) by the Minister of Construction and Construction Materials Industry. Reestablished by decision of the Government on November 30, 1999 in a single class.

Badge 1971:28 x 28 mm. Obverse: of several rectangles of various shape, the central one bears the the image of the Polish uncrowned eagle. Reverse: a triangle surrounded by the inscription ZASLUZONY DLA : BUDOWNICTWA I : PRZEMYSLU / MATERIALOW /BUDOWLANYCH, with a small laurel twig below.

Badge 1999: gold medal, 30 mm in diameter , with a stylized brick wall, circumscribed ZA ZASLUGI DLA BUDOWNICTWA from the top. The reverse is blank.

Suspension 1971: metal bar 26 x 6 mm. Suspension 1999: enameled metal bar with a white and red horizontal stripes. In the middle there is a red shield with the Polish crowned eagle.

Decoration for Merit to Geodetic and Cartographic Surveys

(Odznaka "Za Zaslugi dla Geodezji i Kartografii")

Instituted by the Government on December 22, 1959, renewed on October 19, 1999. Conferred originally in two classes (gold and silver), since 1999 in one class (gold) to workers of geodetic and cartographic survey for outstanding achievements in professional work.

Badge 1959: gold or silver globe, surrounded by a white enameled ring inscribed ZA ZASLUGI W DZIEDZINIE : GEODEZJI I KARTOGRAFII, and surrounded by a laurel wreath. There are five groups of rays, enameled alternately white and red, brotruding from the badge. The reverse has a mounting screw.

Badge 1999: gold medal, 30 mm, with a globe graticule in the upper half. In the center there is an outline map of Poland circumscribed ZA ZASLUGI DLA GEODEZJI I KARTOGRAFII below. The reverse is blank.

Suspension 1999: enameled metal bar with a white and red horizontal stripes. In the middle there is a red shield with the Polish crowned eagle.

Decoration for Merit to Transportation

(Odznaka honorowa "Zasluzony dla transportu")

Instituted on September 10, 1976 as the Decoration for Merit for Transportation of the People's Republic of Poland. Awarded originally in three grades by the Minister of Communications, for merit in land, sea and air transport. The decoration was renewed on September 22, 1997 and amended 2000. It is now conferred in a single grade (silver) by the Minister of Transportation and Sea Industry and worn on the right side of the chest.

Badge 1976: a gilt, silver or bronze medal 32 mm of diameter. Obverse: a contour of Poland with thestylized inscription ZA / ZASLUGI / DLA / TRANSPORTU / PRL (for merit in transportation PRP) inside. Reverse: the three line inscription POLSKA / RZECZPOSPOLITA / LUDOWA, and the small semicircular one MINISTER KOMUNIKACJI (minister of communications) below.
Badge: a silver medal 32 mm of diameter. Obverse and reverse as before, but the inscriptions were altered to ZASLUZONY / DLA / TRANSPORTU / RP (for merit in transportation RP) and RZECZPOSPOLITA / POLSKA respectively, and the inscription below has been removed.

Suspension 1976: a ribbon 34 mm, pale green with narrow white (inner) and blue side stripes.
Suspension 1997: an enameled metal bar with a white and red horizontal stripes. In the middle there is a red shield with the Polish crowned eagle.

Meritorious Railroad Worker

(Odznaka honorowa "Zasluzony dla Kolejnictwa")

Instituted by decision of the Minister of Railroads of August 5 (April 21), 1954, as the Exemplary Railroad Worker Decoration (Odznaka "Przodujacy Kolejarz"). Conferred originally in a single grade (silver), the gold one being added in extended to two (golden and silver) in 1973. Conferred to railroad workers for long and exemplary work. The decoration was conferred initially by the Minister of Railroads, and from 1961 by Minister of Transportation. The decoration was discontinued ca. 1990 and reinstituted by decision of the Government of November 22, 2000 under its current name and in a completely different form and a single class. It is conferred by the Minister of Transportation.

Badge 1954-90: gold or silver 10-pointed star, 36 mm in diameter, of five single plain arms, and five rays between each two arms. The central medallion bears the letters PRL on red background, surrounded by a white ring inscribed PRZODUJACY KOLEJARZ, surrounded in turn by a narrow laurel wreath; at the bottom of the medallion there is a silver winged wheel of the Polish National Railroads. The badge is mounted with a screw to the left breast pocket of the uniform.

Badge since 2000: round silver plaque, 32 mm in diameter. It depicts a stylized silver leaf spring on blue background - the symbol of Polish railroads. Above, there is a bar inscribed ZASLUZONY (meritorious). The whole is encircled by a silver ring with white and red scroll in the upper part and the words DLA KOLEJNICTWA (to railroads) in the lower. The badge is mounted with a screw to the right breast pocket of the uniform.

Decoration for Merit to Road Construction

(Odznaka "Zasluzony dla Drogownictwa")

Instituted by the Government on April 1, 1969 as the Exemplary Road Construction Worker Decoration (Odznaka "Przodujacy Drogowiec"), reestablished on September 22, 1997 and amended 2000. Conferred originally in two classes (gold and silver) for 10 and 5 years of exemplary work in road construction business. Upon reestablishing it is a single class decoration conferred for meritorious work in road construction.

Badge 1969: cross urdée, 36 x 36 mm., with the central white enameled medallion depicting a bridge crossing a highway, surrounded by a gren enameled ring inscribed PRZODUJACY DROGOWIEC and with two laurel sprays below. Between the arms of the cross there are three rays. The reversehas a mounting screw.

Badge 1997: round silverplaque, 30 mm in diameter, showing a bridge crossing a highway, with a white and red scroll below and surrounded by a non-enameled ring inscribed ZASLUZONY DLA DROGOWNICTWA. The reverse has a mounting screw.

Meroitorious Sea Worker Decoration

(Odznaka "Zasluzony Pracownik Morza")

Instituted by the Government on June 18, 1955, in three classes (gold, silver and bronze) to honor merchant mariners fishermen and other sea workers for long and meritorious work. Altered 1956, it was reestablished in a completely new form and a single class on September 22, 1997 and amended 2000.

Badge 1955: ten pointed star, 25 mm in diameter, composed of five massive points, alternately with five sets of rays, 7 rays in each set. The central medallion shows the Polish merchand flag in white and red enamel, resting upon an anchor. The surrounding ring is inscribed ZASLUZONY PRACOWNIK, with the word MORZA upon the anchor. The reversehas a mounting screw.

Badge 1956: five pointed star, 25 mm in diameter, with the fields between the rays filled with blue enamel. The central medallion shows the Polish merchand flag in white and red enamel, but of a different design than the above, resting upon an anchor. The surrounding ring is inscribed ZASLUZONY PRACOWNIK MORZA. The reversehas a mounting screw.

Badge 1997: round silverplaque, 30 mm in diameter, showing an anchor on blue background with a three-line inscription ZASLUZONY / PRACOWNIK / MORZA. The lower part of the anchor has two crossed white and red scrolls. The reversehas a mounting screw.

Decoration of LOT Airlines for One Million Kilometers Flight

(Odznaka Polskich Linii Lotniczych LOT za Wylatany 1 Milion Kilometrow )

Instituted by decision of the Government of May 3, 1956. Conferred to all crew of the PLL LOT state airlines who completed one million kilometrers of flight.

Badge: golden plaque, 32 x 40 mm, depicting an airplane on light blue enamel under a white and red flag; below there is a blue circle with a stylized flying crane - the logo of the LOT Airlines, with a scroll inscribed 1.000.000 KM below. The sides of the badge have the form of waving flags. On the reverse there is a mounting screw.

Decoration of Merit for Communications of the Republic of Poland

(Odznaka honorowa "Zasluzony dla lacznosci Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej")

Instituted on August 11, 1969, originally as the Meritorious Worker of Communications Decoration. It was conferred in three grades by the Minister of Communications to workers of communications. In 1996 the name was altered and the two lower grades discontinued. The decoration is worn on the right side of the chest.

Badge 1969: a gilt, silver or bronze cross of eight arms with slightly convex bases, 25 mm of diameter. The central medallion depicts a postal horn and a radio antenna; in the white ring there is the insctiption ZASLUZONY : PRACOWNIK LACZNOSCI (meritorious worker of the communications). The medallion is surrounded by a laurel wreath underlying the arms of the cross. The reverse bears the two line inscription MINISTERSTWO / LACZNOSCI (ministry of communications), circumscribed POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA.

Badge 1996: as above, made in gilt metal, with the insciptions altered to ZASLUZONY : DLA LACZNOSCI on the obverse and MINISTER / LACZNOSCI (minister of communications), and RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA on the reverse.

Suspension: a metal bar 25 x 6 mm, with a blue and black horizontal stripes of enamel (colors of the communications service) and a stylized lily in the center. When the ribbon bar alone is worn it is of a blue and black horizontal stripes.

Decoration for Merit to Banking Services

(Odznaka "Za Zaslugi dla Bankowosci")

Instituted by the Government on October 23, 1983 as the Meritorious to Banking Services Decoration (Odznaka "Zasluzony dla Bankowosci"). Conferred in a single class to bank workers for long and efficient service. Discontinued ca. 1990 and renewed in an altered form by Government regulation of February 7, 2003.

Badge 1983: silver medal, 29 mm in diameter, with an uncrowned silver Polish eagle on red background, surrounded by a white ring, inscribed ZASLUZONY DLA BANKOWOSCI PRL. The reverse is blank.

Suspension: bar of silver metal, 19 x 10, covered with white and red enamel.

Badge 2003: gilt medal, 30 mm of diameter. Obverse: an oak wreath surrounding a flower-like hole in the center, surrounded by a green enameled ring, inscribed "ZA ZASLUGI DLA BANKOWOSCI RP". The reverse is blank. The medal is attached to the ribbon by an ornamental bar.

Ribbon: 27 mm, yellow gold with green side stripes.

Decoration for Merit to Financial Services

(Odznaka "Za Zaslugi dla Finansow PRL")

Instituted by the Governemt on January 10, 1975. Conferred in two classes (gold and silver) to workers of the Ministy of Finances, and to members of financial departments of state owned enterprises and financial control bodies for long and efficient work. In could also be conferred to organizational units. It was discontinued ca. 1990 and tenewed in one class and altered form by Government regulation of October 14, 2003.

Badge 1975: oval plaque, 23 x 30 mm. In the center there is an uncrowned Polish silver eagle on red background, with the letters PRL below. The surrounding ring bears the inscription ZA ZASLUGI : DLA FINANSOW. The reverse is blank.

Suspension: bar of gilt or silver metal, 19 x 10, covered with white and red enamel.

Badge 2003: bronze medal, 33 mm of diameter. Obverse: a silver crowned eagle on a shiedld, accompanied by letters "R" and "P" and a floral ornament; below there is a three-line inscription "ZA ZASLUGI / DLA FINANSOW / PUBLICZNYCH". Reverse: "MINISTERSTWO / FINANSOW" (Ministry of Finances), with a floral ornament above and below, and an award number.

Ribbon: 35 mm, brown with a blue central stripe, flanked by narrower white ones.

Decoration for Merit to Statistical Survey

(Odznaka "Za Zaslugi dla Statystyki")

Instituted by the Government on February 2, 1985. Conferred originally in one class (silver), expanded to two (gold and silver) in 1989, and reduced again to one class (silver) in 2003, to honor individuals who rendered merit to Polish statistical surveys, including voluntary statistical correspondents. It could also be conferred to organizational units. The decoration was confered by the President of the General Statistical Office (Glowny Urzad Statystyczny).

Badge: gold or silver eight pointed star, 26 x 26 mm, composed of two superimposed squares; the outer one is checked and has a small circle, inscribed GUS. The reverse contains a four-line inscription ZA / ZASLUGI / DLA / STATYSTYKI / RP (PRL until 1990), adorned with highly stylized laurel sprays.

Suspension: gold or silver metal bar 26 x 10 mm, in the form of stylized laurel sprays.

Decoration for Merit to Social Welfare

(Odznaka "Zasluzony dla Uezpieczen Spolecznych")

Instituted by the Government on November 10, 1978. Conferred in two classes (gold and silver) respectively for 20 and 10 years of work in the area of social welfare.

Badge: octagonal plaque, 32 mm in diameter. In the center of the obverse there is a red shield with a silver uncrowned eagle, surrounded by a laurel wreath; the whole being curcumscribed ZASLUZONY DLA : UEZPIECZEN SPOLECZNYCH. The reverse bears a six-line inscription MINISTERSTWO / PRACY I SPRAW / SOCJALNYCH / ZAKLAD / UBEZPIECZEN / SPOLECZNYCH (Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Social Welfare Bureau).

Suspension: metal bar, 25 x 5 mm, enameled green-white-green, with a red enameled letter V in the center.

Decoration for Merit to Work Protection

(Odznaka "Za Zaslugi dla Ochrony Pracy")

Instituted by the State Council on January 22, 1988. Conferred in a single class to the individuals dealing with work protection. Renewed by ministry regulation of October 25, 2004. It can be conferred to organizations and institutions as well.

Badge 1988: bronze medal in the form of a gearwheel, 34 mm in diameter. The obverse depicts a silver eagle surrounded by a ring inscribed ZA ZASLUGI DLA OCHRONY PRACY. There is a wheat spike surrounding the left side of the ring. The reverse bears a rectangular tablet with a three-line inscription PANSTWOWA / INSPEKCJA / PRACY (State Labor Inspectorate) with a laurel spray below.

Suspension: bronze bar in the form of stylized laurel leaves.

Badge 2004: a gilt rosette, 32 mm of diameter. Obverse: a silver crowned eagle on silver background, surrounded by a dark blue enameled ring, inscribed "ZA ZASLUGI DLA OCHRONY PRACY". Reverse: the logo of the National Labor Inspectorate, surrounded by a ring, inscribed "PANSTWOWA INSPEKCJA PRACY" on dark blue enamel.

Ribbon: 27 mm, dark blue, with broad black side stripes flanked frromm the inner side by red pin stripes.

Decoration for Merit to the System of Research and Certificates

(Odznaka honorowa "Zasluzony dla Systemu Badan i Certyfikacji")

Instituted by the Government on November 21, 1996, originally in two classes (gold and silver), reduced to one (silver) in 1997. Conferred to members certifying bodies for long and meritorious work in the area of certifications and quality control. The decoration is conferred by the Director of the Polish Center of Research and Certificates (Polskie Centrum Badan i Certyfikacji).

Badge: gold or silver medal, 30 mm in diameter. On the obverse there is the letter Q (for quality), enameled half white half red; inside there is a crowned silver eagle with the letters RP below. The whole is circumscribed ZASLUZONY DLA SYSTEMU BADAN I CERTYFIKACJI. The reverse is blank.

Suspension: golden or silver metal bar 25 x 7 mm, with the letters PCBC (Polskie Centrum Badan i Certyfikacji) on it, and a mounting screw on reverse.
